Event Description: The Vietnamese Association of Jacksonville is proud to present its Second Annual Vietnamese Fair on Sunday, February 10th, at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds (510 Fairground Place, Jacksonville, FL, 32202), from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Admission is FREE for kids 10 or younger and $5 for everyone else. Attendees can expect the Fairgrounds to be transformed into a “Little Vietnam" showcasing a rich heritage of over 1,000 years that will include traditional dances/songs, a fashion show, and authentic foods from all regions of Vietnam.
“Our objectives are to raise awareness and funds to provide social services for the needy, elderly and refugees from Vietnam along with providing scholarships and cultural events,” said Dr. Thanh Minh Nguyen, President of the Executive Board of the Vietnamese Association of Jacksonville. “The event has been organized by Asian leaders from a variety of Asian cultures in our community to promote diversity, racial harmony, and many other humanitarian initiatives in Northeast Florida.”

About the Vietnamese New Year or “Tet”
The festival which best epitomizes Vietnam's cultural identity is the Vietnamese New Year or “Tet” – the phonetic deformation of "Tiet", a Sino Vietnamese term which means "joint of a bamboo stern" and in a wider sense, the "beginning of a period of the year." There are many Tets throughout the year (Mid-autumn Vietnamese New Year, Cold Food Vietnamese New Year, etc) but the most significant of all is "Vietnamese New Year", which marks the Lunar New Year.
