Event Description: A full weekend of entertainment for Northeast Florida’s pet lovers!
The Norman Studios Silent Film Museum and the Hotel Indigo® Jacksonville will screen three silent short films featuring iconic comedic actor Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle and his loyal canine companion, Luke at the next Silent Sundays event on Sunday, April 19.
– Fatty’s Faithful Fido: Fatty sics his pup on Al, his rival for the romantic attentions of the beautiful Minta. Al’s revenge plan hilariously backfires. 1915, 13 minutes.
– Fatty’s Plucky Pup: Fatty’s love is kidnapped and it takes a four-legged hero to save the day. 1915, 27 minutes.
– The Hayseed: Buster Keaton joins Arbuckle in this funny tale involving catching a thief, chasing love and a game of haystack hide-and-seek. 1919, 27 minutes.
Each of the films features Arbuckle’s famous pit bull, Luke, given to the actor and his wife, Minta, as a puppy as bonus payment for Minta’s work in a Keystone Studios film. Luke proved a pioneer among animal actors, appearing in more than a dozen films, climbing ladders, dashing across rooftops and even leaping from one speeding car to another – all long before Rin Tin Tin, Lassie, Old Yeller and Petey made their on-camera debuts. Jacksonville University’s Tony Steve and the Silver Synchro Sounds will provide live musical accompaniment. Tickets are $5 for this family-friendly event.
This special Silent Sundays presentation is in support of Mad Cowford’s annual Comedy for Critters, taking place the evening before – Saturday, 18, 7pm at Hotel Indigo. The event features a silent auction and an improvisational, audience-interactive comedy show. Proceeds benefit Friends of Jacksonville Animals, dedicated to finding adoptive homes for shelter pets.
