GRAMMY-winning multi-platinum alternative rockers Deftones with special guests Code Orange will play the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. The Los Angeles Times wrote of Deftones, Hard rock thrives on conflict and chaos, and no band has found more beauty and soaring aggression within those ingredients than Deftones. Deftones have released seven albums to date and have sold over 10 million albums worldwide. Comprised of vocalist/guitarist Chino Moreno, guitarist Stephen Carpenter, keyboardist/samplist Frank Delgado, drummer Abe Cunningham and bassist Sergio Vega, Deftones are currently preparing to release their eighth studio album, Gore (out April 8, 2016). Rolling Stone calls Pyramids/Triangles, the first single from Gore released on February 4th, powerful, rousing. In an interview with The PRP, Moreno explained, I feel like its just one of those songs thats very Deftones-esque, where that dynamic is there as far as that ebb and flow and that dynamic of just those, parts that go at your throat. But you know, it also has a soothing quality to it as well, and that dichotomy is what makes us who were are in a way. Its sort of our DNA. So I feel like its a good representation of where were at right now and where weve been in the past as well. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Code Orange creatively cut their path through the modern aggressive music scene. Unconcerned with the direction of other artists, their brand of gritty hardcore/punk merges cryptic melody, dirty hardcore power, and intense dirge into their own uniquely inspired sound. “I Am King” is the new album from Code Orange (formerly Code Orange Kids), recorded at God City Studios by Kurt Ballou (Converge). Unpredictability is the law as Code Orange navigate through their distorted world. Title track “I Am King” shifts from “heavy” to “hard to define” through the use of unorthodox guitar work/percussion and chaotic structure. While songs “Dreams in Inertia”, “Starve”, and “Bind You” all wear an art-rock crown while claiming a metallic throne. It’s not just melodious experimentation though, “Unclean Spirit”, “My World”, and “Thinners of the Herd” show Code Orange reimagining what aggressive music can be. Elevating and expanding what can be done within the confines of it without leaving it behind entirely. Proving that Code Orange are true artists and not just “kids” anymore.
